Hosted within ORIGIN AFRICA, Africa’s Premier Trade Platform for the fibre, textile and apparel industries, and organised and promoted in partnership with International Fashion Model, Ajuma Nasenyana and Fashion Magazine Publisher and Brand Consultant, Olive Gachara, ORIGIN AFRICA UPSCALE 2018 offered unprecedented opportunity for micro and small businesses to:

  • Showcase to the widest possible audience;
  • Network with public and private sector industry leaders from across the continent and the world;
  • Learn from a wide range of leading, experienced and practical experts on a variety of subjects; and
  • Trade with national, regional and international buyers




The official opening of Origin Africa 2018 took place on the evening of Sunday 9th September 2018 in the Nairobi National Park.  Between 500 and 600 VIP guests attended this unique Invitation Only event

The theme of this Showcase is CONSERVE and all pieces shown must connect to this by:

  • preserving cultural heritage and/or skills;
  • protecting our environment through the use of sustainable materials; and/or
  •  supporting specific conservations causes.

Under the African night sky, this Origin Africa Upscale Showcase will create an unmatched fashion experience that meets global standards



Origin Africa 2018 featured a small runway and all services required for our exhibitors to showcase within the Origin Africa Trade Fair venue, Visa Oshwal Centre, on 10th and 11th September 2018. 

Designers unable or not selected to showcase during the Official Opening were given priority for peak time slots during these 2 days.

The audience will include buyers, trade visitors and local, regional and international press.



Origin Africa 2018 ran concurrently with the ITMF Annual Conference, to take advantage of the presence of global leaders in textiles and manufacturing and to showcase African opportunities. The ITMF Conference is a premier invitation only global event that brings together up to 400 global producers, manufacturers and buyers of textiles and apparel.

ITMF Annual Conference [7th – 9th September] and Origin Africa [9th – 11th September] provided the opportunity and forum for members from across all sectors and many countries to connect face to face and discuss, in both formal and informal environments conducive to relationship building, the free flow of ideas and spirited exchange of opinions on a wide ranging variety of topics relating to cotton, textile and apparel industries

The combined event provided an excellent opportunity for African businesses, including micro and small creative industries, to interact with key global players, understand how to position themselves, and, get a chance to help shape the CTA agenda at the very top levels.



Exhibiting micro and small creative industries were invited to join a special 2 day workshop (12th and 13th September) being hosted by the Kenya Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives.

Origin Africa 2018, ran concurrently with the ITMF Annual Conference is expected to host a higher than ever number of regional and international trade buyers and visitors.  .

Support packages were offered to BUYERS who have a particular focus on the micro and small fashion related industries.  These Buyers attended a Buyer/Exhibitor interactive feedback session during the OA UPSCALE WORKSHOP on 12th September 2018-06-25
